MANDI: In a shocking twist to what should have been the start of a new life, a newly-wed couple landed behind bars within days of their marriage after being caught with chitta in Himachal Pradesh.
The accused have been identified as Arun Bhatti, a resident of Jail Road in Mandi, and his wife Parul Guleria from Kangra.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided a hotel room near Sundernagar bus stand where the couple was staying after their recent love marriage.
During the search, police recovered over 21 grams of heroin (chitta), pointing towards possible involvement in drug trafficking rather than mere consumption.
The couple, who had tied the knot just three days earlier, was immediately arrested and booked under the NDPS Act.
Investigators suspect links to a larger drug network and are now probing the supply chain and connections.
The case has triggered concern across the region.
Police officials said the crackdown on narcotics will continue, warning that those involved in the drug trade will face strict action.
