ARTRAC RAISING DAY IN SHIMLA

Shimla’s Ridge reverberates with Army tunes, ARTRAC marks 35th Raising Day with ‘Run for Excellence’

SHIMLA: The iconic Ridge Maidan here today  turned into a powerhouse of music, energy, and patriotic fervour as the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) kicked off its 35th Raising Day celebrations on September 27 and 28 with a grand band display and a spirited ‘Run for Excellence’.

The Indian Army Symphony Band lit up the Ridge on September 27 with a spellbinding performance that moved the crowds with its mix of military tunes and Bollywood favourites.

The melodies not only showcased the soldiers’ musical mastery but also struck a chord with the city, blending discipline with camaraderie.

The spectacle drew a packed audience, with Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief ARTRAC, felicitating the band for their stirring display.

The following morning, the city woke up to the thumping steps of soldiers, families, and children as the ‘Run for Excellence’ painted Shimla in Army colours.

Flagged off by Lt Gen Sharma, the 3-km uphill stretch from the Institute of Advanced Studies to the Ridge turned into a track of unity, pride, and fitness.

Troops and locals ran shoulder to shoulder, reflecting the spirit of the ARTRAC fraternity.

The run wrapped up with an energetic Zumba cool-down session led by fitness trainer Miss Varsha, leaving the crowd charged and cheerful.

Highlighting the importance of health in today’s digital age, Lt Gen Sharma underlined ARTRAC’s commitment to physical fitness through the FitIndia initiative.

“This is not just about running, this is about building bonds—within the Army and with the community,” he said.

These events are part of ARTRAC’s Raising Day celebrations leading up to October 1, showcasing the command’s dedication to training excellence and community connect.

With 34 training establishments across the country, ARTRAC remains the backbone of the Army’s institutional training.
