PM Modi Takes Aerial Survey of Kangra, Meets Disaster-Hit Families in Himachal
DHARAMSHALA, Sept 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today landed at Gaggal Airport in Kangra and first undertook an aerial survey of the disaster-hit region to assess the scale of devastation caused by flash floods and landslides.
After the survey, the PM met families affected by the calamity at Gaggal Airport, listening to their stories of loss and survival. One of the most heart-wrenching moments came when he met an 11-month-old girl child from Gohar in Mandi, who miraculously survived a massive landslide but lost all her family members.
Holding the child in his arms, the PM consoled her relatives and assured full support.
The Prime Minister was greeted at the airport by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, cabinet ministers and senior officials. In a rare display of unity, leaders across party lines stood together during his visit.
As Himachal reels under the destruction of homes, roads and livelihoods suffering losses worth Rs 15000 crore since 2023, the state now awaits a big relief package from the Prime Minister to rebuild lives and infrastructure shattered by the disaster.
