A  tragedy struck Bharmour tehsil of Chamba district on Sunday night as  giant rocks, dislodged by continuous rainfall, crashed into a house in Suta village under Gram Panchayat Chadhi — killing a couple on the spot.

The big rocky  boulders rolled down the hill and struck the rear wall of the house, reducing it to rubble in seconds.

Rescue teams later recovered the bodies of a man and a woman, both residents of the same household.

Couple had come to wife's parents home. The house was completely destroyed.

Torrential Rains Turn Deadly

The region has been witnessing intense rainfall for the past 24 hours, increasing the risk of landslides and falling boulders. Though locals were on alert, the sudden rockfall left no time to react.

Locals informed the administration, following which rescue teams reached the site and began clearance and recovery work.

 Administration Issues Caution

Expressing shock to the bereaved family, local MLA Dr Janak Raj has urged residents of hilly areas to remain cautious and relocate from vulnerable zones during heavy rainfall.

“This tragic incident is a grim reminder of how unpredictable mountain weather can be.

People must stay alert and follow safety advisories,” and urged administration  to provide timely relief.and  shelter to the family members
