SHIMLA:

The city of Shimla heaved a sigh of relief as heaps of garbage strewn across the town during the peak tourist season are set to be cleared from tomorrow after the seven-day strike by SEHB workers ended in a truce on Wednesday.

The deadlock ended after a written agreement was reached between the CITU-affiliated SEHB Society Workers Union and the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Shimla Municipal Corporation over the workers’ long-pending demands.

The settlement paved the way for sanitation services to resume, bringing relief to residents, shopkeepers and tourists who had been grappling with mounting waste across the hill city.
