Hamirpur gets Rs 200-cr medical block, 210 new allied healthcare seats

CM Sukhu unveils Rs 215.80-cr medical, civic projects in Hamirpur

HAMIRPUR: In a major boost to medical infrastructure and healthcare education in the region, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated a state-of-the-art academic block at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur, built at an outlay of Rs 200 crore.

Alongside the infrastructure upgrade, the Chief Minister formally launched the Allied and Healthcare College, Hamirpur, introducing four undergraduate degree programmes with a total intake of 210 seats. The new courses include Bachelor of Medical Lab Science, Bachelor of Radiology, and Bachelor of Anaesthesia with 60 seats each, along with 30 seats in Dialysis Technology.

Addressing the gathering after the inauguration, Sukhu said that modern healthcare relies heavily on trained paramedical and technical staff alongside doctors.

“Strengthening allied and healthcare education is essential for supporting our doctors and medical professionals to ensure the efficient delivery of modern healthcare services,” the Chief Minister said. “The introduction of these four courses will not only expand educational opportunities for the state’s youth, but also build a skilled workforce across specialised fields to meet the growing requirements of the healthcare sector.”

Highlighting the impact of the Rs 200-crore academic block, the Chief Minister stated that the facility would upgrade both medical education standards and regional patient care. He noted that enhanced institutional capacity at the college would improve local access to advanced medical facilities, reducing the need for residents to travel outside the state or region for specialised treatment.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister dedicated and laid the foundation stones for additional civic and administrative projects worth Rs 15.80 crore in the district. He inaugurated the newly constructed residential complex of the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog, built at a cost of Rs 4.30 crore, and laid the foundation stones for a Rs 10-crore Child Care Institution and a Rs 1.50-crore Street Food Park in Hamirpur.
