Former Congress MLA Bambar Thakur Alleges BJP Involvement in Bilaspur Shooting

Bilaspu/Shimla: On March 14, 2025, former Congress MLA Bambar Thakur and his personal security officer (PSO) were injured in a shooting at Thakur's residence in Bilaspur.

Four unidentified assailants fired approximately 12 rounds before fleeing the scene. 

Thakur sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and is currently undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla.

His PSO, Sanjeev Kumar, suffered injuries to his leg, back, and thigh and is in critical condition at AIIMS Bilaspu.

In a statement from his hospital bed, Thakur alleged that the attack was orchestrated with the support of local BJP MLA Trilok Jamwal.

He claimed that his recent campaigns against drug smugglers, particularly those involved with 'chitta' (adulterated heroin), made him a target.

Thakur stated, "If Trilok Jamwal would not support, such incidents would not take place." 

Meanwhile Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu along with Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania and others visited him at  IGMC today.

He told media that he was out of danger and police have made some arrests and got leads in the case and take strict action against the culprits. 

Responding to these allegations flagged by Bambar, Jamwal condemned the attack and called for an impartial investigation. He questioned the effectiveness of law enforcement, stating,

"When such a massive shooting incident took place, where were the intelligence agencies?"

Jamwal also threatened to call for a Bilaspur shutdown on Monday if the assailants are not apprehended by Sunday evening. 

The incident has intensified political tensions in the region, with both parties trading accusations.

As investigations continue, the his famiky awaits clarity on the motives behind the attack and the identities of those involved.
