SHIMLA: Election Commission of India (ECI) today has set aside all speculations regarding state assembly elections. ECI has fixed October 1, 2022 as qualifying date for summery revision of photo electoral rolls as per new amendment in Representation of People Act, 1950.
According to the Chief electoral officer, Himachal Pradesh, the respective district election officers will take up the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations before completion of the summery revision of photo electoral rolls.
The political parties and individuals, MLAs, MPs have been asked to submit their suggestions if any for rationalisation or rearrangements by July 13, 2022 before their respective DEO.
The scrutiny and commission’s approval will be over by July 21, 2022.
As per direction of the ECI the public is informed that special summary revision of photo electoral rolls would be taken up for the first time based on October 1, 2022 as qualifying date.
This revision will take place between the months of July and October 2022. All eligible citizens born between January 2, 2022 and first of October, will also be included in the photo electoral rolls.
The young eligible electors will get an opportunity to participate in the electoral process and they would come forward and register themselves, said the state electoral officer.
The ECI has cleared the air about government’s intention not to jump the gun by holding the state assembly elections before October.
