SHIMLA: The newly elected Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee President Pratibha Singh on Monday got a rousing reception from Congress workers and local leaders on the way from Parwanoo and Solan after she arrived in Himachal to assume the new role.
She was greeted by senior Congress leaders Dr Dhani Ram Shandil, Gangu Ram Musafir, Shiv Kumar, Lakhvinder Rana, Sanjay Awasthi, Nand Lal, Mohan Lal Brakta, Vikramaditya Singh, her son, who is Shimla rural legislator, Vinod Sultanpuri, Ram Kumar, Sudhir Kalia, Harish Janartha, Janaib Chandel, Ramesh Thakur and Ramesh Chauhan and several others.
Pratibha Singh had to jostle among enthusiastic supporters as her cavalcade reached Solan today.
After a nonagenarian Congress leader, Vidya Stokes and former Rajya Sabha MP Viplov Thakur, Pratibha Singh became the third women president of Himachal Pradesh Congress committee.
Pratibha Singh is assuming the charge of the state Congress in the election year. Congress is eying pollical gains from her appointment as the party hopes to get sympathy of the people for late Virbhadra Singh, her husband and six-times Chief Minister, who dominated Himachal politics for over four decades.
Pratibha Singh has increased her political stature after she won the last Mandi Lok Sabha byelection in 2021, giving a big jolt to the BJP at the Centre and in the state. She has become a state chief ahead of the state assembly polls this year and Congress seeks to ride high sympathy factor and on the issues of rising prices and unemployment, said the Congress workers.
AICC committee has kept the balance of power accommodating all leaders and regions and districts and castes equation and combinations to sound the Congress “Unity mantra” to oust the ruling BJP.
Congress has planned a big show on May 5 after the state’s new PCC body would take over the command of party leadership.
Congress leaders Rajiv Shukla incharge of Himachal affairs and Sanjay Dutta and Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma would be present at the May 5 rally to put up a brave front against BJP and the third force AAP.

Pratibha Singh told media in Solan that she met AICC president Sonia Gandhi in new Delhi. “We will work as a team and got to the people to seek their support and votes to oust the BJP for the good governance”, she said.
She said the Congress workers are full of josh and they would work hard to win the coming state assembly elections in Himachal.
On the other hand, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chairperson of Campaign Committee and Nadaun MLA also got a rousing reception in Una and Hamirpur.
Sukhu along with leader of opposition Mukesh Agnihotri and Rajinder Singh Rana, Sujanpur Congress MLA showed a show of unity in Una and Hamirpur that has galvanized the Congress workers. The Unity mantra is creating synergies that is crucial for winning the elections, said the Congress workers.
Pratibha Singh said the Congress would win the elections. :The CM will be decided by the elected MLAs and party high command and the will of the people will be taken care of", she said.
The May 5 rally will also see what kind of narrative Congress sets for the coming elections.
