Vendetta Politics Will End Badly: Jairam Thakur LoP accuses Sukhu government of targeting MLAs and misusing police and officials
Shimla, December 18: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur on Wednesday accused the Sukhu government of working with a spirit of revenge instead of development.
Addressing a press conference in Shimla, he said the Chief Minister was misusing power to harass Congress rebel MLAs, independent legislators and BJP leaders. He warned that this path was wrong and its outcome would also be wrong. Power, he said, is not permanent.
Jairam Thakur alleged that police and departments were being used to settle political scores. He referred to the case of Hamirpur MLA Ashish Sharma and claimed a mining case was registered without any complaint from the mining department. He said serious sections were added only to deny bail.
He said similar pressure was being put on other MLAs who refused to support the government. He alleged political targeting of several leaders, including KL Thakur, Rajinder Rana, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, former minister Sudhir Sharma, Chaitanya Sharma, Ravi Thakur and BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal.
The Leader of the Opposition said such retaliation politics was against Himachal’s culture and had never produced good results.
Raising questions over the Kangra Carnival, Jairam Thakur asked why a government-notified event was seeking money from the public. He questioned why no official bank account number was mentioned in the letter and expressed concern over lack of transparency.
He also accused the Information and Public Relations Department of doing political propaganda and warned officers not to cross limits or link their future to a temporary government.
On disaster issues, he alleged that families who lost relatives were being harassed by police and forced to visit police stations repeatedly.
He also questioned the government’s silence on illegal tree felling in Banjar and Dharampur and illegal mining in several districts, alleging selective action and protection to ruling party supporters.
