Vigilance FIR Sparks Showdown: Sudhir Sharma’s Supporters Rally Behind BJP MLA

DHARAMSHALA:  Days after the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau registered an FIR against Dharamshala BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma, a large crowd of his supporters rallied behind him as he appeared before the Vigilance team, venting their anger against the Sukhu government.

Sharma, however, said he had nothing to hide and was fully cooperating with the probe.

“I have concealed neither any property nor any financial transaction. I am providing the Vigilance Department every record it has sought—including bank accounts, Demat accounts, investments and property documents,” Sharma said.

He challenged the agency to identify any specific property allegedly concealed by him and produce the relevant record.

“If I have hidden any property, name it and place the record before the public,” he said.

‘No fear of probe, but no selective action’

Sharma said he was responding to the notice issued under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and had submitted supporting documents.

He said two ancestral land transactions in Baijnath, worth ₹74.07 lakh, were duly registered and available in government records.

He also disclosed another ₹14.50 lakh property transaction with Anurag Sharma of Bir, saying the Vigilance notice had not specifically sought details of this transaction.

“Even a transaction I was not specifically asked about is being disclosed voluntarily. What greater transparency can there be?” he asked.

Sharma said his complete Demat records, along with details of bank accounts, investments, vehicles, loans and properties, were being furnished to the agency.

‘Investigate everything—but use the same yardstick’

The BJP MLA said he had no objection to any lawful investigation.

“My objection is not to investigation. It is to selective investigation,” he said, alleging that the Vigilance machinery was being used under political pressure to target Opposition leaders.

He demanded a probe that was fair, independent, fact-based and uniform for everyone.

‘Cases cannot silence me’

Launching a direct attack on the Sukhu government, Sharma accused it of pursuing “repressive and vindictive politics” against the Opposition.

“No case or investigative agency can stop me from raising the people’s issues. I have spoken for Dharamshala and Himachal and will continue to do so,” he said.

The confrontation outside the Vigilance proceedings has given the FIR a sharper political edge, with Sharma turning the probe into a wider challenge to the Sukhu government’s alleged use of investigative agencies against political opponents.
