Shimla district police have intensified their zero-tolerance drive against narcotics, detaining another habitual drug trafficker under the PIT-NDPS Act and tightening the net around an interstate heroin supply network.

An active trafficker, Sandeep Kumar alias Sandy, a resident of Chopal tehsil in Shimla district, has been detained for three months under a preventive detention order.

He is involved in multiple NDPS cases registered at Sadar and Dhalli police stations, with recoveries of heroin ranging from 2.17 grams to 26 grams. With this action, Shimla Police have detained 22 habitual and organised drug traffickers under detention orders in the last 28 days.

In a related development, police have secured a three-day remand of Vijay Bihari alias David, a notorious interstate heroin supplier, in connection with an NDPS case registered at Rampur.

The case pertains to the seizure of 9.26 grams of heroin from two accused earlier this month. Investigation, including mobile call records, WhatsApp calls and bank transaction analysis, revealed that the contraband was procured from David, who was operating an interstate supply network from Punjab.

David, already lodged in judicial custody in another NDPS case at Theog, was brought to Rampur on a production warrant. Police said intensive questioning is underway to trace forward and backward linkages of the drug supply chain.
