Young Mother Dies a Day After C-Section at Kamla Nehru Hospital, Family Alleges Criminal Negligence

Shimla, July 25:

Shockwaves rippled through Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH) this morning after  Archana Sharma  a 28-year-old woman, who had delivered a baby barely 24 hours ago via caesarean section, collapsed and died under suspicious circumstances around 8.30 am.

The tragedy has sparked outrage, with the bereaved family and relatives from Gadavar village Shimla accusing hospital staff of gross negligence.

According to the grieving family, the young mother was not well  when staff allegedly  asked her to vacate the bed and shifted her  by walking.

“She was shivering, and the moment she fainted, there was no doctor around. They came only when she was critical. By then, it was too late,” a relative said.

Despite being shifted post-surgery, her deteriorating condition, they allege, was ignored until she collapsed.

The doctors reportedly failed to revive her, and the mother was declared dead soon after.

The newborn baby is reported to be in stable condition.

The family members, distraught and furious, have taken to social media, livestreaming their protest from the hospital ward.

Their demand: immediate action against the “erring” hospital staff. The police arrived on the scene as tensions escalated.

Mother in law of the victims charged that the KNH gives no attention to the common patients. After the death of daughter in law, no one should come to KNH of they don't have acess or approach, she charged.

In a face-to-face exchange with the inconsolable family, the Medical Superintendent of KNH S K Negi admitted that, “She was fine as per the staff's report and  but there was no negligence".

“We have sought a detailed report from the doctors. She fainted, and we tried to revive her but couldn’t,” he told them in the presence of police officers.

A post-mortem was refused by the family  to establish the cause of death.

However, the family has little faith in the system. “We will lodge an FIR. But we know how these cases go. Nothing ever comes out of it,” a family member said bitterly, hinting at similar past incidents where victims’ families never got justice.

Meanwhile, netizens are up in arms, raising pointed questions about the functioning of the hospital’s labour room and the attitude of the staff and newly trained doctors  on duty.

Another avoidable tragedy or a deep rot in the system?

For now, a newborn has lost her mother — and a family is left searching for answers in silence and rage. #Negligence #MaternalDeath #KNHHorror #JusticeForMother #⃣
