Jai Ram Thakur said this ropeway would solve the traffic problem of Mcleodganj and would become a new tourist attraction cutting down the traveling time. The ropeway would carry 1000 persons in one hour in one direction in just five minutes.
The tourists including foreigners and Buddhists who travel to Macleodganj to meet the Dalai Lama would reach the Tibetan-in-Exile capital hub in just five minutes whereas they take an hour or so after getting stuck in traffic jams.
Chief Minister said construction of this ropeway was started in 2018 and has been developed under DFBOT Mode as a Public Private Partnership Project by Dharamshala Ropeway Limited and Himachal Pradesh Tourism and Civil Aviation Department. The project cost Rs 208 crore.
Ropeway has 10 towers and two stations. Mono Cable Detachable Gondolas Technology has been used in this ambitious project, he added.
He said that despite pandemic, the ropeway was completed within the stipulated time. This project would prove a milestone for providing alternative mode of transport to the tourists as well as general commuters.
He said that this ropeway has been constructed by using latest world class technology. The executers of this project has been asked to introduce a pass for daily commuters, he said.
Jai Ram Thakur said that the State Government was committed to develop lesser known places from tourism point of view, under the Nai Raahein Nai Manzilein scheme.
He said that Chanshal in Shimla district was being developed as Skiing and winter sports destination, Janjehli in Mandi district as eco-tourism destination, Bir Billing in Kangra district as adventure sports destination and Pong dam as water sports destination. All these projects on completion would attract tourists from all over the world.
Social justice and empowerment minister Sarveen Chaudhary, Industries minister Bikram Singh, MPs Kishan Kapoor and Indu Goswami, Ramesh Chand Dhawala, Vishal Neharia, Trilok Kapoor, Nehal Chand Sharma, Director Tourism Amit Kashyap, DC Dr. Nipun Jindal and other senior officers were present on the occasion among others.
