Shimla, May 6: Himachal Pradesh Police detained 15 habitual offenders under preventive provisions of the PIT NDPS Act in a major statewide crackdown on chitta networks.

Police did not disclose the names of the detainees or details of their past offences, stating that all are repeat offenders involved in narcotics trafficking and posed a serious threat to public safety and youth.

The preventive detentions were executed across several districts. Sirmaur and Kullu reported four cases each, Kangra and Bilaspur two each, while one detention each was carried out in Dehra police district, Solan and Mandi.

The action followed sustained intelligence gathering, technical surveillance and profiling of suspected traffickers, with focus on tracing backward and forward linkages of organized drug networks operating within and beyond the state.

Officials said preventive detention is being used to incapacitate habitual traffickers who continue to engage in drug trade despite facing repeated cases under the NDPS Act. The move is aimed at breaking supply chains and dismantling networks pushing heroin into Himachal.

Director General of Police Ashok Tewari said the campaign against narcotics will continue with full force and zero tolerance, adding that police are working round the clock to identify and isolate those involved in drug trafficking.

The action forms part of the ongoing Anti-Chitta drive of the state government, which seeks active public participation. Police urged citizens to share credible information through emergency helpline 112 or local police channels, assuring confidentiality.

Authorities maintained that more such preventive actions will follow as enforcement agencies intensify efforts to curb organized drug crime and protect the youth from the growing menace of narcotics.
