AvalancheInBharmourChamba2026

Bharmour: A massive avalanche struck Aut Nala in Poolan panchayat of Bharmour subdivision around 1 am on Tuesday night, triggering panic and causing significant damage to property. The powerful rush of ice and debris battered three commercial shops and washed away two goods vehicles.

According to preliminary information, a goods carrier belonging to Bunty, son of Desh Raj (HP-38F-7066), was swept away in the avalanche. Three shops owned by Ghardalu Devi, wife of Jahri Ram, along with her pickup vehicle (HP-73-8462), were also badly damaged. All those affected are residents of Poolan village.

Fortunately, the incident occurred late at night, averting any loss of life. However, the destruction has once again underlined the vulnerability of high-altitude villages to extreme natural events.

Reacting to the incident, Bharmour BJP MLA Dr Janak Raj said, “This avalanche has caused serious damage to private property, but it is a big relief that no lives were lost. The administration has been asked to assess the losses immediately and provide all possible relief to the affected families. Given the changing weather patterns, people in vulnerable areas must remain alert.”

The local administration has begun a damage assessment, while residents have been advised to stay cautious as fresh weather disturbances may increase the risk of similar incidents in the region.
