CBI Court Sentences Former Postal Assistant to Five Years RI in ₹13.85 Lakh Fraud Case
NEW DELHI: A CBI court has sentenced a former postal assistant to five years of rigorous imprisonment in a fraud case involving ₹13.85 lakh, the Central Bureau of Investigation said on Friday.
The court also imposed a fine on the convict after holding him guilty of cheating and criminal breach of trust. The case pertained to misappropriation of public money while the accused was posted at a post office, where he allegedly manipulated official records and accounts to siphon off funds.
The CBI had registered the case following a complaint and, after investigation, filed a chargesheet against the accused. During the trial, the prosecution established that the former postal assistant abused his official position to commit the fraud, causing financial loss to the postal department.
Taking a serious view of the offence involving public trust, the court awarded a five-year rigorous imprisonment sentence along with the fine.
