Himachal Gets All Cheers! State Wins 30-Year Legal Battle, Bags ₹401 Crore from Wildflower Hall Property

Shimla, October 15: Himachal Pradesh has finally won a decades-long legal battle over the iconic Wildflower Hall property in Mashobra, with the High Court ruling in favour of the State Government and directing the transfer of ₹401 crore from the Joint Venture Company, Mashobra Resort Limited (MRL), to the State.

With this landmark verdict, the State has become the sole owner of the property and all its assets — including bank balances, shareholdings, and advances. The High Court, in its order dated October 14, 2025, directed that around ₹320 crore of bank balance belonging to the JVC be transferred to the State, along with ₹25 crore under an arbitral award.

The Court also ordered that the entire shareholding of East India Hotels (EIH) in the JVC be transferred to the State for ₹13 crore. Furthermore, only 50 percent of the advance capital — ₹68 crore out of ₹136 crore deposited by EIH — will be returned, giving the State an additional benefit of ₹68 crore.

A government spokesperson said the matter had been pending for nearly 30 years but was vigorously pursued under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The Apex Court had earlier, on February 20, 2024, transferred the possession and ownership of the property to the State, which completed the physical takeover by March 31, 2025.

“The State was not earning any financial returns from this property earlier. This verdict is a result of the proactive and sustained efforts of the present government,” the spokesperson said, adding that top lawyers were engaged to fight the case in the country’s highest courts.

This win comes close on the heels of another historic Supreme Court decision in favour of the State, which directed JSW Energy Company to pay 18 percent royalty instead of 12 percent from the Karchham Wangtoo Hydro Electric Project, generating over ₹250 crore in annual revenue for Himachal.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed satisfaction over the victory, saying, “The government is committed to protecting the State’s interests and will not compromise at any level. These outcomes are a testament to our resolve to ensure that Himachal gets its due.”
