Shimla, Sept 13: The National Lok Adalat held across Himachal Pradesh today proved a massive relief for litigants, with as many as 87,914 cases settled out of 1.42 lakh taken up, awarding claims and settlements worth ₹162.5 crore.
Organised under the patronage of Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and guidance of Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, the Lok Adalat benches sat in all courts across the state, including special arrangements in the courts of Traffic Magistrates where an online ePay facility was provided for payment of compounding fees in challan cases.
Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Executive Chairman of the H.P. State Legal Services Authority, personally supervised proceedings at Shimla District Headquarters and interacted with litigants and stakeholders.
“The success of today’s Lok Adalat shows how effective alternative dispute resolution can be in easing pendency and providing speedy justice. We are grateful to the print and electronic media for their support in spreading awareness,” said Ranjeet Singh Thakur, Member Secretary, H.P. State Legal Services Authority.
Wide publicity campaigns—through SMS alerts, jingles, IEC material, local bodies, NGOs, panchayati raj representatives, para-legal volunteers, and public transport services—ensured maximum participation.
