Clean air is a fundamental need, not an environmental luxury: NGT chief
NEW DELHI/SHIMLA: National Green Tribunal Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava has described clean air as a fundamental human need rather than an environmental luxury, underlining its direct connection with the quality of life.
Addressing the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies programme in New Delhi, Justice Shrivastava said clean air plays an important role in maintaining the quality of life and cannot be treated merely as an environmental concern.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over air pollution and its impact on public health, urban living conditions and the environment, putting greater emphasis on effective measures to improve air quality.
The NGT has been dealing with a range of environmental matters involving air pollution, alongside issues concerning industrial emissions, waste management and environmental compliance.
Justice Shrivastava’s observations reinforce the need to view clean air as an essential requirement for a healthy and dignified life rather than as an optional environmental benefit.
