SHIMLA: As many as 1,06,376 cases were taken up in the National Lok Adalat different benches for settlement. Out of this, a record number of 50,175 cases were settled or disposed off and compensation worth ₹ 84.87 Crore was recovered or awarded to the claimants across Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.
This was a record number of cases settled in this National Lok Adalat.
The response to the first special Online Lok Adalat for MV challan cases was not that bad. Over 11,629 cases were settled online, while compounding fee worth ₹ 1,16,89,200 was collected till 04:00 PM today as more data is yet to be collected from the Police.
“This was possible only with the support of all stakeholders including media”, said Prem Pal Ranta, member secretary, HPSLSA.
This shows public trust and faith in the Alternate Resolution System, particularly in the institution of Lok Adalat, he said. It afford an easy, accessible and inexpensive remedy to the litigant public for resolution of their disputes as per their choice, he added.
This time National Lok Adalat was not only organised but celebrated in the spirit of an Utasav all over the state as large footfall of the litigant public was seen in all 133 Lok Adalat Benches.
National Lok Adalat for Pre-Litigation & Pending matters was organized under the patronage of Patron-in-Chief Shri Justice Amjad A Sayed, Chief Justice, High Court of Himachal Pradesh and under the able and innovative guidance of Smt. Justice Sabina, Judge, High Court of Himachal Pradesh and Executive Chairperson, Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority in all the Courts in the State of Himachal Pradesh.
As per their directions a Special Online Lok Adalat with technical support of SAMA (an online dispute resolution organisation), for MV Challans cases at Pre-litigation Stage today along with National Lok Adalat.
“This initiative was taken to facilitate compounding of Motor Vehicle Challans by the violators from their home(s) without coming to the Courts physically and to save their time and expenses”, said Ranta.
This Authority had coordinated with the HP Police Department and Department of Transport for maximum identification and effective settlement of MV Challans at the Pre-litigation stage. These departments had notified their Nodal and Compounding Officers for better coordination and successful organisation of this Special Online Lok Adalat.
The litigant public was made aware of the National Lok Adalat through SMS messages, jingles and distribution of IEC material.
In the future special online Lok Adalat will be organised for settlement of MV challan cases and also for other categories of the cases where pendency of such cases is in large number.
Next National Lok Adalat will be organized as per the calendar of NALSA which is to be notified for the year 2023, Ranta said.
