Himachal Pradesh Mourns First DGP Shri I.B. Negi
Shimla, March 5, 2025 – Himachal Pradesh has lost a stalwart with the passing of Shri I.B. Negi (Retd.), the state’s first Director General of Police (DGP).
A 1958-batch IPS officer (UP cadre), Shri Negi, born in Sangla, Kinnaur, played a pivotal role in shaping the state’s police force.
Before becoming Himachal’s first DGP in 1986, he held key positions in UP Police, ITBP, SSB, CISF, and was instrumental in establishing the Delhi Police Commissionerate.
He was honored with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS) and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMS).
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, "Shri Negi’s contributions to policing are unforgettable. My deepest condolences to his family."
DGP Atul Verma added, "He laid the foundation of our force with discipline and vision. We mourn his loss."
