KULLU/SHIMLA: Congress President and Mandi MP Pratibha Singh today pulled up the slack National Hydroelectric Power Corporation(NHPC) for not being prompt in providing assistance to victims of the Sainj bus accident in which 13 villagers, including school students were killed few days ago.
After meeting the families of the accident victims in their villages on July 13 today, Pratibha Singh expressed displeasure with the officials of NHPC and HP Power Corporation, who run the projects in Sainj valley.
“It is a matter of great sadness that the people who have given their land for making Parbati and Sainj projects when they needed their help at the time of disaster, no help was available to them on time’, MP noted.
She expressed her sympathy and support of the party for the bereaved families after she visited their homes today and provided cash relief to the victims.
She said Congress will give all possible help to the affected families.
Earlier, she inspected the site of the bus accident, expressed concern over the poor condition of the road. Pratibha Singh said special attention should be paid to the modes of roads due to the rains.
The project officers pleaded that they stressed on the need for maintenance and improvement of roads in this area from time to time.
She said special safety measures should be taken by identifying accident prone areas.
She also asked the project officers to cooperate in this work. Parapets and crash barriers should be installed along roads to prevent the accident.
Pratibha Singh also asked the power project officers to constitute a quick disaster force in this area so that there is no delay in relief work in future in case any such calamity or accident take place.
Pratibha Singh also directed Public Works Department to rectify them by marking black spots on the Sainj Shainshar road.
MP instructed the officials of the Transport Department to run additional buses for the remote and inaccessible areas of this area.
Pratibha Singh also announced Rs 2 lakh from MP Fund for construction of a road in the inaccessible Panchayat Gada Parli on the demand of the local people.
