SHIMLA- The Department of State Taxes has experienced a growth of 13 per cent in the last two months in revenue collection during the current fiscal year in Himachal Pradesh.
According to the spokesperson, they have collected Rs. 1004 crore so far, compared to Rs. 890 crore during the same period last year, showing a 13 percent increase in the first two months of 2023.
The department has been focusing on speeding up the scrutiny of tax returns, completing GST audits on time, and improving the skills of tax officers to enhance GST collection.
They have set a target to verify 13 lakh e-way bills this year and have already verified 1.85 lakh e-way bills in the first two months, penalizing violators with Rs. 92 lakh.
The department is also actively working to detect fraudulent taxpayers and registrations. They have started a special drive to uncover fake GST registrations and prevent false claims for tax credits.
This will help reduce revenue losses. In the initial phase of the campaign, they have identified eight fake firms out of 129 suspects, which were evading taxes worth Rs. 10.49 crore. Strict action is being taken against these fraudulent taxpayers.
The department is also implementing a project to enhance GST revenue and improve their data analysis capabilities.
This project aims to make the department more efficient and effective in managing tax collection.
