PITHORAGARH/DEHRADUN: The 19th Indo-Nepal Joint Military Exercise SURYAKIRAN ended in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, marking the first big military event between the two countries after the Gen Z uprising in Nepal removed the corrupt Oli government and brought in the new woman Prime Minister.
The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Nepal watched the final Battalion-level exercise together. This exercise completed weeks of joint training focused on counter-terror operations under UN rules.
Both armies practised new Tactics, Techniques and Procedures using modern technology like drones for surveillance and precision targeting, AI-based monitoring systems, unmanned supply vehicles, advanced day and night sights and secure communication systems.
The drills showed smooth teamwork between the two armies. Soldiers carried out intelligence-based missions, coordinated planning and aerial insertion in tough mountain terrain.
At the end, the DGMOs planted a ‘Tree of Friendship’ to celebrate the strong trust and cooperation between India and Nepal. This also signalled a fresh start in relations under Nepal’s new leadership.
The successful completion of SURYAKIRAN-XIX is seen as a positive step for stronger India–Nepal defence ties.
