VK Saxena Reviews Kargil Airport Works, Pushes for Early Commercial Flights

Kargil: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena reviewed the progress of works at Kargil Airport in a meeting with CEC Kargil Dr Jaffer, MP Ladakh Haneefa Jan, Sheikh Nazir Ul Mehdi and officials of the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Indian Air Force (IAF) and district administration.

The meeting focused on the early operationalisation of commercial civilian flight services from Kargil.

Saxena said the AAI and IAF are conducting joint surveys for strengthening and developing the runway and assessing logistical requirements for commercial civilian aircraft operations. The district administration is also working on land requirements for runway expansion and other operational needs.

“I urged all agencies to work in tandem to expedite the works and complete them in a time-bound manner,” Saxena said.

He said the move would help expand air connectivity across Ladakh and address the long-pending demand for commercial air services in Kargil.
