Indian Navy today inducted the indigenously developed 163 m long INS Vishakhapatnam, a state-of- art missile destroyer into its fleet of arsenal at Mazagaon dockyard Mumbai that has given a new push to the government's mission of Atamnirbhar Bharat in defence sector.
Prime Minister Narender Modi today tweeted saying that the induction of the indegeniously- built INS Vishakapatnam into Indian Navy was a big leap in the government's efforts to make India Atamnirbhar in defence sector. "It is a proud day for India’s quest to become Atamnirbhar in Defence sector. It is indigenous and strengthen our security apparatus. Our efforts towards defence modernization continue with full vigour", he said.
Attending the induction ceremony along with Naval Chief Admiral Karamvir Singh, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said INS Vishakhapatnam is a state of art missile destroyer packed with modern weapons and modern technology. It has shown Indian Navy’s growing maritime prowess, he said.
Rajnath Singh said the ship was built by the MDSL would not only fulfill country’s needs but also the needs of the other countries. 90 percent of naval ammunition has been indegenisized stepping the navy’s strategy of “float, move and fight.
