The government has sacked the Punjab DGP Siddarth Chattopadhay in connection with the security lapse of Prime Minister Narender Modi’s visit to Ferozepur in Punjab on January 5 and Viresh Kumar Bhawra has assumed charge of new DGP Punjab with an immediate effect. The SSP Ferozepur has also been transferred by the state government.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted a high level three-member inquiry committee to inquire into the security lapse of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to Firozpur Punjab on 5 January 2022 which led to the exposure of the VVIP to a grave security risk, said the Ministry.
The three-member committee is headed by Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Secretary Security, Central Cabinet secretariat, Balbir Singh, the joint director IB, S Suresh IG, SPG. They already visited the state to secure details in connection with security lapse in PM’s security during his Punjab visit.
Home Ministry has asked the committee to summit its report at the earliest.
