Breaking News: Belgian Paraglider Tragically Dies in Mid-Air Collision at Bir-Billing

Palampur:  A tragic accident at Bir-Billing, one of the world’s renowned paragliding sites in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, has claimed the life of a Belgian paragliding pilot.

The accident occurred during a practice session for the upcoming 2024 Paragliding World Cup, scheduled to host participants from over 50 countries in November.

Reports indicate that the Belgian pilot, in his mid-sixties, collided mid-air with another paragliding pilot, leading to a fatal descent.

The other pilot involved in the collision sustained injuries and was rescued after becoming entangled in trees, though their identity has yet to be disclosed.

Authorities and the paragliding community are urging for improved safety measures, emphasizing the need for monitoring infrastructure and stricter regulations to prevent such incidents, especially in high-risk zones like Bir-Billing.

The fatal accident has stirred fresh calls for enhanced safety protocols as the region prepares for the world cup event, where over 130 pilots are expected to participate.
