PALAMPUR: The Paragliding World Cup is set to begin tomorrow in Bir-Billing, Himachal Pradesh.
The skies over Bir Billing are alive with color and thrill as the Paragliding World Cup officially begins on November 2.
Pilots from 32 countries are set to compete from November 2 to 9, each bringing their own style and daring spirit to Himachal Pradesh’s paragliding paradise.
The energy here is contagious. In every direction, gliders dot the sky, rehearsing last-minute moves, perfecting takeoffs, and testing the winds.
With a lineup of 75 top pilots from across the world, including the U.S., France, and India, the competition promises intense, high-flying action.
This event marks the second World Cup at Bir Billing. It’s a prestigious honor that cements Himachal Pradesh as a major paragliding hub.
Safety checks this year were rigorous—145 pilots registered, but only 75 passed national ranking and licensing requirements to make the cut.
Despite a tragic setback just two days ago—a mid-air collision that claimed the life of a Belgian pilot—the pilots remain undeterred. Their spirit is resilient, and they’re ready to compete.
This unwavering determination is a testament to their skill and passion for the sport.
Anurag Sharma, President of the Himachal Pradesh Paragliding Association (BPA), is optimistic. “This World Cup isn’t just about the competition,” he says.
“It’s about putting Himachal on the world map.” For him, and for all of Himachal, this event is a source of pride.
As the World Cup begins, Bir Billing is buzzing with excitement, anticipation, and reverence for the skies above.
In the days to come, spectators will witness daring flights and masterful maneuvers that only the world’s best pilots can deliver.
The event will showcase colorful PG pilots against Kangra Valley’s beautiful landscape, including Palampur and Baijnath and Jogindernagar.
The Himachal government hopes to use this platform to promote the state as a global hub for adventure tourism.
The Billing Paragliding Association, along with state tourism bodies has organized the event.
It coincides with the Himachal Paragliding Fest, which offers activities such as motocross, rafting, and a marathon. The competition is thus a mix of sport, natural beauty, and cultural experiences.
