Paragliding Set to Soar in Shimla Circuit: Successful Trial in Gadhakufar Boosts Adventure Tourism Prospects
Matiana: Shimla's adventure tourism scene is set to get a major boost as Gadhakufar, near the Kelvi panchayat in Matiana, emerges as a potential new hub for paragliding.
A successful trial flight from Tikker and Ranipur to the Sera sports ground in Gadhakufar has opened up possibilities for commercial tandem flights, catering to tourists seeking thrill and scenic aerial views of Himachal’s landscapes.
Himachal Pradesh Forest Development Corporation Vice Chairman Kehr Singh Khachi confirmed the successful trial and stated that the state government is actively working to promote paragliding in the region.
"With this successful trial, we are hopeful that Gadhakufar can develop into a key adventure tourism destination," he said.
Safety and Commercial Viability
Adventure sports experts emphasize the need for strict safety protocols before commercial operations begin.
Paragliding requires skilled pilots, reliable equipment, and favorable weather conditions to ensure a safe experience for tourists.
"Tandem paragliding is commercially viable, provided trained pilots and standard safety measures are in place," a paragliding safety expert noted.
Roadmap for Development
To make Gadhakufar a recognized paragliding hub, the state government is planning:
Infrastructure Development: Setting up take-off and landing sites with proper facilities.
Regulatory Framework: Implementing guidelines for pilot licensing, safety checks, and emergency protocols.
Promotion and Investment: Encouraging private investment and collaborations to boost adventure tourism in the area.
If all goes as planned, Gadhakufar could soon be on the map as a prime paragliding destination, drawing adventure seekers to the Shimla tourism circuit.
