Farmers in Kangra Rally Under Himachal Kisan Sabha Against Evictions
Dharamshala, January 26, 2025:
In a show of resistance, the Dharamshala Block Unit of the Himachal Kisan Sabha convened a convention at Ambedkar Bhavan in Khaniyara, raising their voice against forced evictions.
The gathering was attended by Himachal Kisan Sabha State President Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, leaders of the Kangra District Unit, and Dharamshala Block leaders.
Dr. Tanwar emphasized that access to land for livelihood is a fundamental issue for the common people.
He demanded that every family should be provided up to 10 kanal of land for survival, and small occupiers with holdings up to 10 kanal should not face eviction.
He reminded attendees that the Himachal High Court had previously provided relief to small landholders following a review petition filed by the former state government.
However, the recent Supreme Court order calling for mass evictions has left these vulnerable communities at risk of losing their homes and livelihoods.
To counter this, the Himachal Kisan Sabha has planned a major agitation, with hundreds of farmers set to participate in a protest march in Shimla this March.
On February 11, a memorandum will be submitted to the state government through the Kangra Deputy Commissioner.
District Secretary Satpal Singh urged members to focus on mobilization and expand the Sabha’s membership in February.
“This is not just a fight for land but a battle for survival,” he declared, rallying farmers to prepare for the upcoming Shimla agitation and strengthen their numbers in the thousands.
The Himachal Kisan Sabha has made it clear: the struggle for land rights is far from over, and they are ready to take their fight to the streets.
