Dr Janak Raj Questions Health System After Child’s Death at Chamba Medical College
CHAMBA: Bharmour-Pangi MLA Dr Janak Raj has expressed deep concern over the reported death of a young girl at Chamba Medical College, allegedly due to a lack of timely treatment, and called for an impartial inquiry into the incident.
“Losing a child is an unimaginable tragedy for any family. If the girl’s death occurred because timely treatment or essential medical facilities were not available, it is a matter of grave concern and must be investigated impartially,” Dr Janak Raj said.
He said hospitals must ensure prompt treatment and emergency care for every patient, and that responsibility should be fixed if negligence is established.
Dr Janak Raj also criticised the state government over what he described as continuing deficiencies in healthcare services. He said he had raised concerns over the state’s health system during the Monsoon Session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly but alleged that the government had responded with “evasive replies” instead of addressing the problems.
Taking aim at Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, he said, “The health system cannot be improved through tall claims and speeches. The government must ensure adequate doctors and specialists, essential medicines, modern medical equipment and effective emergency services in hospitals.”
He said the government should address shortcomings in the health sector rather than terming administrative failures as “Vyavastha Parivartan”.
“There can be no scope for negligence in healthcare. Every citizen must have access to timely and quality treatment,” Dr Janak Raj said.
