Years of Assurances, Zero Action – Nerwa and Chopal Residents Struggle for Healthcare, Pregnant Women Worst Affected.
NERWA/CHOPAL: Health services in the Chopal subdivision, which includes Nerwa, remain in a poor state.
Despite years of promises, successive governments have failed to upgrade diagnostic facilities and appoint specialist doctors at Chopal and Nerwa hospitals.
The latest assurance by Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col) Dhaniram Shandil, promising to transform Nerwa Hospital into a "model health institute," feels like more of the same unfulfilled pledges.
He was here to preside over the Nerwa festival.
On paper, the government’s plans sound promising. Yet, in reality, Nerwa Hospital lacks even basic diagnostic equipment and specialized staff.
Patients often have no choice but to travel over 100 kilometers to IGMC Shimla for even minor ailments. For pregnant women, the situation is even more distressing.
With no gynecologist or ultrasound facilities in Nerwa, they endure long, difficult journeys just to access essential maternal care.
Dr. Shandil assured that vacant positions, including those for radiologists, would be filled within two months, and promised ₹20 lakh for Pulwahal Health Center’s construction.
Yet, locals are skeptical. They’ve heard similar pledges from many ministers over the years, only to be disappointed repeatedly.
The lack of basic health services in Chopal and Nerwa has become a constant burden, and people are left wondering if this time will be any different.
Residents of Nerwa and Chopal have kept their fingers crossed, but patience is wearing thin.
For them, a "model health institute" isn’t about words—it’s about genuine, immediate improvements.
Dr. Shandil’s promises may be the latest in a long line of assurances, but will he finally deliver where others have failed? For the people of Nerwa and Chopal, the answer can’t come soon enough.
