Ahead of Diwali, Himachal PG Doctors to Get Full Salary: CM Sukhu’s Big Move.
Shimla, 25 October 2024: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced full salary for Himachal doctors pursuing PG, Senior Residency (SRship), or DM-level studies, reversing a previous policy that cut their pay to 40 percent.
Now, these doctors will retain full pay, with their study considered "on duty."
CM Sukhu emphasized that supporting doctors in their dual role—studying while caring for patients—strengthens Himachal’s healthcare system.
"This is an investment in both the doctors' growth and the state’s healthcare future," he stated. The move aims to improve patient care and build a stronger healthcare system statewide.
The decision came after a delegation of medical officers raised concerns about the financial burden of the salary cut. CM Sukhu responded with swift action, directing health officials to resolve the issue.
Now approved, the decision has earned broad support from the medical community.
Himachal Medical Officers’ Association President Dr. Rajesh praised the policy, noting the positive impact on morale. "The earlier 40 percent pay cut discouraged doctors from pursuing further studies.
CM Sukhu’s timely response shows a real commitment to healthcare," he said, adding that it aligns with the government’s vision for a robust healthcare system.
With the policy in place, the government expects more skilled doctors in public hospitals, leading to better healthcare access and outcomes for communities across Himachal Pradesh.
