SHIMLA: The Cardiac Surgery Centre is set to commence operations at Rajendra Prasad Medical College and Hospital (RPGMC) in Tanda in Kangra district on September 25 this year.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil made this announcement, highlighting that a team from the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties in Shimla will provide support for Open Heart Surgery procedures at Tanda hospital.
The Cardiac Surgery Centre will be a boon for residents in the lower regions of Himachal Pradesh.
The state's first Open Heart Surgery was conducted at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla in 2005, he said.
This marked a significant achievement for Himachal Pradesh, as such facilities were previously only available at institutions like the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research in Chandigarh and Sher-E-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar.
Since its inception in 2005, the Cardiac Surgery Centre at IGMC Shimla has shown remarkable progress, performing an average of 20-25 Open Heart Surgeries per month with a success rate exceeding 95 percent.
Patients of all age groups have received free treatment for various heart conditions under Him Care and Ayushman Bharat Health Care Schemes. Over 4000 patients from across Himachal Pradesh have benefited from Open Heart Surgery at IGMC.
He further mentioned plans to strengthen healthcare institutions with the latest technology and introduce Robotic surgery facilities in medical college hospitals in the near future.
