SHIMLA: In a push for student engagement and holistic growth, Himachal Pradesh University's Dean Students’ Welfare Office organised a series of impactful campaigns in 2024—from anti-drug drives to cultural fests, gender sensitisation to disaster resilience workshops—aimed at building a safe, inclusive, and vibrant campus.

The Office of Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), released its 2024 Activity Report on campus today.

The report was unveiled by Vice- Chancellor Prof. S.P. Bansal, in the presence of Pro- Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajendra Verma.

Thanking the university leadership for their unwavering support, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Mamta Mokta said, “We are grateful to  Prof. Bansal and  Prof. Verma for their constant motivation and assistance in executing diverse student welfare initiatives throughout the year.”

She elaborated on campaigns conducted in 2024:

🟢 Anti-Drug Campaign:
“We organised seminars, street plays, and interactive sessions to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Students, faculty, and experts from NGOs participated in these discussions,” said Prof. Mokta.

The campaign aimed to build a drug-free campus culture.

🌱 Tree Plantation Drive:
“In collaboration with the Forest Department and NSS volunteers, tree plantation drives were held across campus to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility among students,” she added.

🚫 Anti-Ragging Campaign:
To ensure a safe environment for freshers, the university ran an intensive anti-ragging awareness programme.

“We formed student monitoring squads, conducted workshops, and displayed anti-ragging helpline numbers throughout the campus,” said Prof. Mokta.

🫀 Organ Donation Awareness Campaign:
“Medical professionals and organ recipients were invited to speak to students about the importance and impact of organ donation. Pledge camps were also organised,” she noted.

🗳️ Voter Awareness Campaign:
To encourage democratic participation, the university held voter registration drives and awareness lectures. “Students were urged to enroll and use their right to vote responsibly,” Prof. Mokta stated.

🎓 Placement Drives:
“In 2024, we facilitated multiple placement drives and skill-building workshops. Companies from various sectors visited the campus, offering job and internship opportunities to our students,” she highlighted.

🎭 Cultural Programmes:
Prof. Mokta added, “From folk dances to debates, and poetry to music competitions, we provided platforms for students to express their creativity and connect with diverse cultures.”

♀️ Gender Sensitisation Programmes:
Through discussions, film screenings, and expert talks, gender awareness programmes were conducted to promote inclusivity and respect on campus. “We focused on breaking stereotypes and promoting equity,” she said.

🆘 Disaster Resilience Workshops:
Prof. Mokta informed that simulation exercises and awareness sessions were conducted in collaboration with disaster management authorities.

“We sensitized students on how to respond effectively to natural and man-made emergencies,” she explained.

Besides these, the report highlighted numerous other activities aimed at enhancing student well-being, soft skills, and civic sense.

“We are committed to shaping responsible, empathetic, and skilled and responsible citizens. These campaigns reflect our holistic approach to student development and nation building,” said Prof. Mokta.
