SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh has been recognized for its exceptional work in tobacco control, with the state receiving an award for its outstanding contribution in this area.
The award was presented to Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil by Mission Director of National Health Mission (NHM), Sudesh Mokhta, and Director of Health Services, Dr. Gopal Beri.
The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the significant reduction in tobacco use in the state,
He attributed it to the combined efforts of the state government, the public, the police and health departments, voluntary organizations, and the media. He also called upon all citizens to actively participate in the ongoing Save Youth Campaign, aimed at making the entire state tobacco-free.
The campaign will run from 31 May to 31 July 2023.
The recognition received on World No Tobacco Day this year highlights Himachal Pradesh's commitment to tobacco control and its positive impact on public health. National Program Officer, Dr. Gopal Chauhan, was also present during the award presentation ceremony.
