Himachal to Get Allied Healthcare College in Hamirpur, 330 Seats in Six New Courses
Shimla, September 6: Himachal Pradesh is set to expand its allied healthcare education infrastructure with a new Allied and Healthcare College at Hamirpur, offering 330 seats across six professional courses, while two major government medical colleges will introduce a specialised Bachelor of Radiation Therapy Technology programme from the 2026-27 academic session.
The Hamirpur college will offer 60 seats each in B.Sc. Laboratory Sciences, B.Sc. Radiology, B.Sc. Anesthesia, B.Sc. Optometry and B.Sc. Physiotherapy, besides 30 seats in Dialysis Technician course.
HP CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said State Government has sanctioned Rs. 6.87 crore for procurement of machinery and equipment required to make the new institution operational.
In a parallel expansion of specialised medical education, IGMC Shimla and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, will introduce the Bachelor of Radiation Therapy Technology course with 30 seats each from the 2026-27 academic session.
The initiatives are aimed at creating a larger pool of trained technical manpower for Himachal's healthcare system and reducing the dependence of students on institutions outside the State for specialised professional training.
CM said allied healthcare professionals are increasingly critical to modern medical services, particularly in areas such as radiology, laboratory diagnostics, anaesthesia, dialysis and radiation therapy.
The State had already expanded the intake of allied healthcare courses at IGMC Shimla and Dr. RPGMC Tanda in 2025. At IGMC, seats in B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technique, B.Sc. Radio and Imaging, and B.Sc. Anaesthesia and OT Technique were increased from 10 to 50 each. At Tanda, the corresponding courses were expanded from 18 to 50 seats each.
Sukhu said strengthening allied and healthcare education was essential for supporting doctors and other medical professionals and improving specialised healthcare delivery.
He said the new college at Hamirpur and the radiation therapy programmes at Shimla and Tanda would create new avenues for professional education and employment while helping make specialised medical services available closer to people's homes.
