RTI Information obtained from KNH, IGMC, GMC Tanda reveals that no Surgery was performed on male ...
Shimla: BJP MLA from Bharmour-Pangi, Dr Janak Raj has launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, accusing him of “misleading the Vidhan Sabha and the public outside” over claims related to hysterectomy operations in Himachal Pradesh.
Citing information obtained under the RTI Act, Dr Janak Raj said official records from Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Kamla Nehru State Hospital for Mother and Child (KNSHMC), Shimla, contradict statements allegedly made by the Chief Minister on the floor of the House.
The RTI reply, accessed through Advocate Vinod Chauhan, revealed that a total of 2,633 hysterectomy surgeries were conducted between 2019 and 2022 at the institution.
According to the official reply furnished by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, all surgeries were performed on female patients and “none of the operations were performed on male patients.”
The year-wise breakup in the RTI response stated that 814 hysterectomies were performed in 2019, 429 in 2020, 600 in 2021 and 779 in 2022.
Dr Janak Raj alleged that despite these official figures, the Chief Minister made statements that created confusion and misled both legislators and the general public.
“The Chief Minister should tender a public apology for misleading the Vidhan Sabha and the people of Himachal Pradesh,” the BJP MLA said.
He maintained that the RTI documents expose the “ground reality” and demanded accountability from the government on the issue.
The BJP leader further said that misleading statements on sensitive health matters erode public trust and lower the dignity of the Assembly.
The controversy has triggered fresh political sparring between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP, with the latter seeking clarification from the government over the remarks made in the House.
