SHIMLA: In a humanitarian gesture to promote voluntary blood donation among people, Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (HPSLA) has   launched a series of blood donation-cum- awareness camps across the state to meet out the emergency needs of the blood mainly for the poor people in the state.

This noble initiative was launched under the direction of the Patron-in-Chief-cum-Chief Justice of High Court of Himachal Pradesh Mr Justice Mohammad Rafiq  and Executive Chairperson, HPSLA -cum- senior judge of High Court Justice Sabina to spread awareness among the public about the spirit of voluntary donation in the state, informed Prem Pal Ranta, member secretary, HPSLA.   

As a part of this noble drive, HPSLAs  district body organised the blood donation camp at ADR centre Chakkar on Friday today under the guidance of HPSLA’s executive chairperson-cum-High court senior judge Justice Ms. Sabina. The district judges, lawyers,  employees of the judicial complex and  voluntary student- donners from universities, collages, ITI and general public participated in a big way and donated their blood to meet out the shortage of blood in government hospitals, said Ranta.     

The blood donation camp was attended by DSLSA chairperson-cum district and sessions judge Sushil Kukreja, additional district and sessions judge, Vikas  Gupta,  district attorney RS Parmar, district Bar president Sabneet Chauhan and others. The camp was assisted by medical offices of state health department and Indira Gandhi medical college and hospital, IGMC, Shimla.   Over 88 units of blood was collected at the camp.  

Ranta said HPSLA is getting good response at district level and now drive will be launched at the sub- divisional  level in the entire state to spread awareness about the voluntary blood donation  so that no poor and resourceless person suffers due to the shortage of blood.  

“We will coordinate with blood banks so that weaker sections of the society, vulnerable & marginalized sections will get blood as and when they need it”, he said.
