UDF seeks PM’s intervention in MP child deaths, demands transparent central probe into contaminated cough syrup case
New Delhi, Oct 8:
The United Doctors Front (UDF) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a central and transparent probe into the reported child deaths in Madhya Pradesh allegedly linked to a contaminated cough syrup.
In a strongly worded letter, the doctors’ body has urged the government to order nationwide batch testing of the suspected syrup, ensure public disclosure of test results, and fix time-bound accountability for both regulators and manufacturers.
Dr. Lakshya Mittal, National President of UDF, told himbumail.com: “Our demand is simple—protect patients, uphold science, and fix the system fast. We cannot let such tragedies repeat due to regulatory lapses.”
The UDF has also sought strong coordination between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and state drug departments for real-time recall and enforcement mechanisms.
Importantly, the organisation has urged the Centre to issue a clear directive ensuring that treating doctors are not harassed or made scapegoats, stressing that quality control is the sole responsibility of regulators and manufacturers.
Tagging top authorities including @PMOIndia, @JPNadda, @MoHFW_INDIA, @CDSCO_INDIA_INF, and @CMMadhyaPradesh, the UDF underscored that drug safety, child safety, and public health must remain top national priorities.
