Should Not Be   NHAI, PWD and BRO  taken to task for breaking backs of Commuters Driving and Travelling on their bumpy roads in hills?

Shimla, October 11:
Bad roads, bumpy rides, and long sitting hours are silently breaking the backs of hill residents, warned doctors from Max Hospital, Mohali, at a free health check-up camp organised by BNI Shimla Chapter at the Rotary Town Hall here today.

The camp drew an impressive response from locals. As many as 63 people turned up at short notice for free tests and consultations with specialists.

The medical team was headed by Dr. Sachin Bindal, a senior neurosurgeon at Max Hospital.

He said that spine and back problems have become alarmingly common in the hills due to daily ascents and descents, rough roads, and sedentary lifestyles.

Driving on potholed highways and hilly roads causes continuous jerks to the spine, which over time leads to backache, disc issues, and posture-related complications,” said Dr. Bindal while talking to Editor-in-chief, www.himbumail.com Kuldeep Chauhan on the sidelines of the camp.

He also warned that long sitting sessions before computers, poor posture, and lack of regular exercise have made back and neck pain widespread even among youngsters.

Dr. Bindal shared simple spine-strengthening exercises and stressed the importance of daily physical activity, saying, “Even 30 minutes of stretching and walking can go a long way in keeping your spine healthy.”

The camp offered free diagnostic services, including bone mineral densitometry to check for osteoporosis, along with BP, pulse, Random blood sugar, and spirometry tests.

Many senior citizens found the initiative a boon, as early detection and preventive advice were available without charge.

Doctors at the camp advised residents to include calcium and vitamin D-rich foods in their diet, avoid smoking, alcohol, and tobacco, and ensure regular sun exposure to maintain bone strength.

BNI Shimla President Srijan Sharma, Past President Ashish Malhotra, and noted city jeweller Atul Tangri were present and honoured the visiting doctors.

They said the organisation will continue holding such CSR health camps for public welfare from time to time.

“Health is wealth, and awareness is the first step. We will keep bringing expert teams to Shimla for preventive health care,” said BNI members.

The camp turned out to be a refreshing mix of medical guidance and community spirit.

The hills keep people fit, their roads and routines need urgent fixing to keep spines straight and strong, was a message to  the people and PWD and NHAI, BRO who need to keep roads pot-holes free.
