Himachal-Telangana MoU for ₹6,200 Cr Hydropower Projects
Shimla, March 28 – Himachal Pradesh and Telangana have signed an MoU to set up 400 MW Seli and 120 MW Miar hydropower projects in Lahaul-Spiti, a first-of-its-kind collaboration. The both projects are controversial as tribals have been opposing it by tooth and nail.
The Seli project was initially alloted to Moserbaer, but they had surrendered the project as tribals didn't guve their nod citing fragile ecology and climate changes concern.
Telangana has paid ₹26 crore upfront, with Himachal to receive free power in phases before full ownership reverts after 40 years.
CM Sukhvinder Sukhu called it a win-win for both states, ensuring local benefits and job creation. Telangana Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu emphasized sustainable energy goals. The ₹6,200 crore projects will generate 5,000 jobs and support local development.
