UHL-III Hydropower Project Begins 100 MW Power Generation in Himachal
Shimla: In a major boost to Himachal Pradesh’s energy sector, the 100 MW UHL-III Hydropower Project has officially started power generation. On March 26, 2025, the project achieved its full 100 MW capacity, marking a significant milestone in the state’s renewable energy expansion.
The state government had expedited the project by providing an immediate ₹185 crore No Default Guarantee, ensuring the smooth execution of construction.
After the completion of work in December 2024, the water conductor system was filled, and turbine synchronization was carried out in phases—first on January 28, 2025, second on February 8, 2025, and third on February 17, 2025.
Now fully operational, the UHL-III project is expected to generate 392 million units of electricity annually, bringing in an estimated ₹200 crore in revenue. In just 45 days of operation, the project has already produced 20 million units, generating nearly ₹10 crore in earnings.
Originally launched in 2003, the project faced multiple delays but has finally been completed 22 years later under the current government’s efforts. With this, Himachal Pradesh strengthens its position as a key player in India’s hydropower sector.
