In a humanitarian gesture Bollywood’s renowned playback singer and musician of Silk Route band fame, Mohit Chauhan today donated Covid-19 relief material worth Rs 3 crore to the needy of Himachal Pradesh, his home state.
Mohit Chauhan along with his wife Prarthana Gehlot called on Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Raj Bhavan today. Governor honoured him and his wife on the occasion.
Earlier, Mohit also met with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, who also honoured him. Mohit sang is his popular folk number of Chamba, ‘Mai ni Marye… Shimle ne basna, Kausli ye ni basna, Chambe jana jaroor…’.
Mohit donated Covid-19 relief material worth Rs 3 Crore, which was flagged off by Chief Minister to different districts in Himachal Pradesh. The relief material included Oxygen concentrate, oxygen cylinders, Treatment kits, Thermometer, gloves, Masks, sanitizers, PPE Kits and ration to be distributed in Kangra, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi and Shimla. These will be sent to the government hospitals so that patients can take benefit, Chief Minster said.
Mohit because of his unique genre of singing shot into fame soon after the launch of Silk Route band. He has two film fare awards of best male playback singer and three zee cine awards for best male playback singer to his kitty and he has many concerts and shows to his credit. Mohit was influenced by his grandfather, who was a classical singer and he sings, and plays guitar, harmonica, flute.
Chief Minister thanked Mohit Chauhan for his philanthropic gesture. He said that the people of the State were proud of the achievements of this son of Himachal Pradesh. He said that despite achieving so much success, Mohit Chauhan has always remained in touch and associated with Himachal Pradesh and its people.
Jai Ram Thakur said that Mohit Chauhan also took over the responsibility of feeding and providing medical care of dozens of destitute dogs trapped in the forest. He said that during the second wave of Covid-19, even when the cases had increased in Delhi, Mohit Chauhan collected essential medical items like oxygen concentrators and cylinders and had sent them to the needy.
He said that being a responsible and capable citizen, Mohit Chauhan left no stone unturned in fulfilling his duty during pandemic. He said that Mohit Chauhan also provided ration kits to the artists, whose income were badly affected due to the pandemic.
Chief Minister said that the crisis of Covid-19 pandemic was not over yet, so everyone needs to be alert and strictly follow the guidelines issued by the government. He said that Himachal Pradesh has secured first place in the country in inoculating both the doses of Covid-19 vaccination. Along with this, we were also ahead in the vaccination of adolescents and booster dose to eligible persons, he added.
Mohit Chauhan said that being a proud Himachali, has come forward to help the people in need. He personally sent many ration trucks to the migrant laborers trapped in Delhi.
Secretary Health Amitabh Awasthi, Mission Director National Health Mission Hemraj Braiwa, wife of Mohit Chauhan Prathana, Director Health Services were present on the occasion among others.
Expressing contentment over Mohit Chauhan's association with Himachal, the Governor said that he listens to classical music and it was limited to “Kansen” only.
Arlekar said he has observed that Himachal Pradesh has a lot of music, and efforts should be made to provide a platform and promote it in a big way. He said that he was planning to organize a big festival of classical music in Shimla so that this tradition of music could be started here. Apart from this, workshops for playback singing should also be organized.
Mohit Chauhan shared his memories related to Himachal with the Governor. He mentioned the days spent in Dharamsala College and Shimla University. He said that he was ready to extend all possible support for promotion of music in Himachal Pradesh. Secretary to Governor Vivek Bhatia was also present on the occasion.
