IAF Gets First Woman Non-Medical Air Vice Marshal, Shakti Sharma Creates History
New Delhi, September 1: Air Vice Marshal Shakti Sharma has created history by becoming the first woman officer from the non-medical stream in the Indian Defence Services to attain the rank of Air Vice Marshal, or equivalent.
Sharma assumed charge as Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Education) on September 1, marking a significant milestone in the expanding role of women in India’s armed forces.
Her elevation comes after more than three decades of distinguished service in the Indian Air Force and marks a new chapter in the journey of women officers breaking through traditionally male-dominated leadership positions.
