Shimla, July 5: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday felicitated Mount Everest summiteer Ruchi Thakur of Karsog in Mandi district and announced a cash reward of ₹1 lakh in recognition of her historic achievement.

Ruchi Thakur, who successfully scaled the world's highest peak on May 21, 2026, called on the Chief Minister at his official residence, Oak Over, in Shimla.

Congratulating her on the feat, the Chief Minister said her achievement was a matter of pride for the entire state and would inspire the younger generation to pursue their dreams with determination, courage and perseverance.

Honouring the Everest climber, Sukhu announced the ₹1 lakh reward and lauded her for bringing laurels to Himachal Pradesh through her outstanding accomplishment.

The Chief Minister said the daughters of Himachal were excelling in diverse fields and continuously enhancing the state's reputation at the national and international levels.

Their success, he added, was motivating society and encouraging more young girls to dream big and achieve excellence.

Ruchi Thakur, a resident of Karsog tehsil in Mandi district, reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 21, becoming one of Himachal Pradesh's latest women mountaineers to conquer the world's highest peak.
