SJVNaward2025

Shimla, March 22, 2025

Public sector enterprises often get blamed for inefficiency, but SJVN has once again proved that when professionals run the show—not bureaucrats—excellence follows.

The 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS), the country’s largest underground hydro project, has been awarded the CBIP Award for Best Maintained Project in Hydro Sector for 2024-25.

According to SJVN, award was received by Sh. Raj Kumar Chaudhary, CMD (Additional Charge), SJVN, and Sh. Ashutosh Bahuguna, Head of NJHPS at a grand ceremony in New Delhi.

Built and operated by SJVN in one of the toughest Himalayan terrains, NJHPS stands tall as a symbol of professional management and technical brilliance in the public sector.

The award particularly acknowledges the impeccable maintenance of civil structures that continue to perform optimally, decades after commissioning.

NJHPS has not only maintained its structural integrity but also shattered multiple generation records this fiscal year.

The power station clocked its Highest Ever Quarterly Generation of 3450.980 million units in Q2 of 2024-25 and registered Highest Single-Day Generation of 39.572 million units on 13th August 2024.

It also achieved Highest Monthly Generation of 1222.170 million units in July 2024—all this without a single shutdown, despite the heavy silt load in the turbulent Satluj river.

SJVN's performance proves that with dedicated professionals at the helm, even public sector undertakings can match or surpass private players in efficiency and delivery.

NJHPS continues to be the backbone of power supply to northern states, demonstrating what focused leadership and engineering prowess can achieve.
