SHIMLA: IN bid to reform and upgrade the power sector in Himachal, Directorate of Energy is set to get Rs 2000 Crore for the “Himachal Pradesh Power Sector Development Program” for five years.
World Bank is funding about Rs 1600 while Rs 400 Crore will come as security from the state, said officials.
This Program aims at effecting power sector reforms in the renewable energy integration and improving reliability of the state’s grid at transmission and distribution level, strengthening institutional capacities of the various State’s power utilities.
Program will be piloting demand response management, improving the technical utilization of the existing hydro power assets. establishing a single trading desk to allow for efficient trading of the State’s power.
These interventions will allow the state to maximize the revenue earned from the sale of energy through renewable balancing capacity, said officials.
The Program also aims to install 200 MW of Solar power through HPPCL and HIMURJA.
The state will do optimal trading and strengthen power network within the state – at transmission by HPPTCL) and in 13 towns at distribution levels by HPSEBL.
The project will upgrade State Load Dispatch Center (HPSLDC) system, bettering power demand and supply management.
These interventions will result in better transfer of power within the state by improving the reliability and quality of power supply.
The programme will improved Environmental & Social systems of power sector.
It also seeks investments in hydropower providing benchmarks for the sustainable development of renewable energy in the state.
